Winston-Salem is named a hot spot to retire ... ranking # 2 in a recent retirement study

A recent survye by Warren Bland, author of Retire in Style: 60 Outstanding Places Across the USA and Canada, ranks Winston-Salem second among U.S. communities in offering cost-of-living value to retirees.

Winston-Salem and the surrounding communities offer "Connection to the arts, recreational opportunities, stylish housing, world-class health care, restaurants, entertainment, ease of living and extended educational opportunities" said Gayle Anderson, the president of the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce.

"Winston-Salem is a very economical place to live overall, and certainly to retire to, a key factor that many baby boomers are targeting as they approach retirement age," author Warren Bland.

"Active retirees want multiple activities rather than just a community dedicated to golf, tennis or scenery," author Warren Bland.

Bland uses 12 categories that include landscape, climate, transportation, retail services, health care, community services, cultural activities, recreational activities, work/volunteer activities and crime rate to develop his rankings.
